Blue Mountains Food, Brewery and Long Lunch Itinerary

Updated June 2026 3 min read

How to spend two days in the Blue Mountains around the best restaurants, breweries and bakeries — with no one in your group needing to drive.

The case for a private food escape

The Blue Mountains has quietly become one of NSW's best regional food destinations. The problem? Most of it is genuinely worth a glass of wine, and the drive back to Sydney is two hours on the freeway. A private two-day escape removes the designated-driver problem entirely.

It also lets you string together venues that are hard to combine with public transport — a Bilpin cider shed in the morning, a Megalong Valley cellar door in the afternoon, dinner in Blackheath. The whole route becomes the trip.

Day 1: Leura, Katoomba and Mountain Culture

Mid-morning pickup from Sydney, with a Wentworth Falls lookout stop. Late lunch in Leura — Silk's Brasserie or Leura Garage are both reliable — then a Mountain Culture Beer Co tasting in Katoomba in the afternoon. Echo Point and the Three Sisters in the soft afternoon light, then check in to your accommodation.

Evening: a drink at The Old City Bank Bar at The Carrington, dinner at Echoes or Darley's. Tempus is the third strong Katoomba dinner option for groups who want a slightly more contemporary menu.

For couples we'll often slot in a Cassiopeia Coffee stop in Leura mid-morning, and a Black Cockatoo Bakery pastry on the way out of Katoomba — small things that add up to a properly food-led day.

Day 2: Blackheath and the upper mountains

Morning pickup, a stop at Govetts Leap, then a long lunch at Ates or Blaq in Blackheath. Optional Megalong Valley scenic drive in the afternoon — including a Dryridge Estate or Megalong Creek Estate cellar-door stop and the Megalong Valley Tea Rooms — before the return to Sydney.

If your group prefers cider over wine, swap Megalong Valley for Bells Line of Road on the return: Mount Tomah Botanic Garden, Hillbilly Cider Shed at Bilpin, and the slow scenic drive back into Sydney via the Hawkesbury.

Brewery, cidery and cellar-door alternatives

If you'd rather build the trip around beer and cider than fine dining, swap the format. Day 1: Mountain Culture in Katoomba and Brew Mountains Brewery in Valley Heights, with a casual dinner at Station Bar + Woodfired Pizza. Day 2: Bilpin Cider Co and Hillbilly Cider in Bilpin, a Mount Tomah lunch and a return via Bells Line.

For a wine-led variation, focus on Megalong Valley: Dryridge Estate, Megalong Creek Estate and a long lunch at a Blackheath restaurant in between. Combine with a Blue Mountains Gin Company tasting at The Factory Bar in Katoomba for a third drinks moment.

Bakery, coffee and casual stops

If you want a morning bakery stop, Black Cockatoo Bakery, Pomegranate, Anonymous Cafe in Blackheath and Altitude Cafe at the top of the range are all reliable. Cassiopeia Coffee is the strongest coffee in the region — worth a deliberate stop on Day 2.

We build coffee, bakery and brewery moments into the day on request — particularly useful for first-time visitors who want to ease into the trip rather than start with a fine-dining lunch.

Booking order and what we plan

Book accommodation first, then Saturday dinner (Ates, Blaq, Darley's, Echoes and Tempus all need 2–4 weeks lead on weekends), then send us your bookings so we can build the transport and routing around them. We'll handle pickup, timing, scenic stops and any add-on bookings — you book and pay for accommodation, meals, drinks and tastings directly.
